On June 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM (CET), a seminar entitled “Ukraine in the Perspective of European Union Integration: Opportunities and Challenges for Rural Areas and Agriculture in Poland and the EU” will be held at the Staszic Palace in Warsaw, in the “Pod Kopułą” Hall (3rd floor). The event is organized by the Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IRWiR PAN).
 
The seminar will focus on the key challenges and potential opportunities associated with Ukraine’s preparation for EU membership.
 
An analytical report, prepared by a team of researchers from the Polish Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, in cooperation with the European Fund for the Development of Polish Villages (EFRWP), will be presented. The report will be delivered by Dr. habil. Paweł Chmieliński, the lead author of the report.
 
Following the presentation, a panel discussion will be held to explore the challenges facing Ukraine in the recovery process and its path toward European integration. The discussion will feature the following distinguished experts:
– Prof. Danuta Hübner, Member of the European Parliament, former EU Commissioner for Regional Policy;
– Prof. Jerzy Buzek, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, former President of the European Parliament, and Chair of the Program Council of the European Fund for the Development of Polish Villages (EFRWP);
– Dr. Jerzy Plewa, former Director-General for Agriculture and Rural Development at the European Commission;
– Prof. Viktor Borshchevskyi, Head of the Department of Public Administration at the Ukrainian Catholic University (Lviv);
– Dr. habil. Paweł Chmieliński, Deputy Director for Research at IRWiR PAN.
 
The panel discussion will be moderated by Dr. hab., Prof. Monika Stanny, Director of the Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IRWiR PAN).
 
The event will be held in a hybrid format.
