On March 20, 2026, the Land Management Institute of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, together with the Boyarka Forest Research Station of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine and the Kyiv Regional Council, organized and conducted a workshop of the regional and national policy lab within the framework of the LandShift project. The event took place at the Boyarka Forest Research Station in the Dzvinkivskyi Educational, Scientific, and Production Complex.
The LandShift project (https://landshift.eu/) – “Community-Led Creation of Living Spaces in Shifting Landscapes for Climate-Resilient Land Use Management and Supporting the New European Bauhaus” – aims to transform land-use practices to enhance climate resilience and support the sustainable development of communities. The project is funded under the European Union’s research and innovation programme Horizon Europe in accordance with Grant Agreement No. 101182007.

The event was moderated by Oleksandr Melnyk (Boyarka Forest Research Station, NULES of Ukraine), who opened the workshop with welcoming remarks, introduced the core members of the multi-actor platform of the LandShift project in the Kyiv region to new participants, and briefly presented the project.

Andriy Dorosh (Land Management Institute) outlined the agenda of the day and revisited the key foundations of the project, which was particularly useful for new participants. He also devoted considerable time to answering participants’ questions.

Shamil Ibatullin (Land Management Institute) presented the Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) library recently developed within the project, explaining its purpose and application methods. Practical case studies demonstrating its use were also showcased. Stakeholders expressed strong interest in contributing their own cases to further enrich the NbS library.

Oksana Sakal (Land Management Institute) introduced a stakeholder readiness survey conducted within the project and invited participants to complete it.

This meeting placed particular emphasis on discussions and exchanges regarding solutions developed within the LandShift project, as well as on identifying key land use challenges and exploring ways to address them through the implementation of nature-based solutions in land management.

At this stage, a key focus is the transition from project presentations during multi-actor platform meetings toward more solution-oriented discussions aimed at addressing land use challenges and shaping local strategies and policies in the Kyiv region.

The meeting also emphasized informal networking during the coffee break, and a dedicated exhibition corner with stands and informational materials about the LandShift project was organized to enhance participants’ understanding.

The workshop brought together representatives of national, regional, and local authorities, as well as academic institutions, civil society organizations, and businesses, including:
– Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine;
– State Service of Ukraine for Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre;
– State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine;

– civil society organizations (All-Ukrainian NGO “Union of Land Surveyors of Ukraine”, NGO “Ecoaction”, NGO “Permaculture in Ukraine”, NGO “Center for Environmental Initiatives”).
The Land Management Institute expresses its sincere gratitude to all participants for their active engagement and valuable contributions to the discussions.
We look forward to our future meetings focused on the joint development of policy solutions for transforming land use systems in the Kyiv region and their further scaling through the implementation of nature-based solutions in planning.
