
On May 21, 2024, scientists from the Land Management Institute of National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine participated in the conference “On the Road to the EU – Rural Development”, which took place at the Ukrainian Catholic University (Lviv). The event was organized by the Polish Academy of Sciences Representation in Kyiv, the Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development Polish Academy of Sciences (IRWiR PAN) and the Ukrainian Catholic University.

The conference is devoted to discussing the processes of rural renewal in Poland and the restoration and reconstruction of rural areas in Ukraine, in particular, the following three key topics on the respective panels of the event:
– Multifunctional development of rural areas.
– The role of human capital in rural development.
– Innovation in rural areas.
The conference was opened by Maksym Kozytskyi, Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration; Yurii Kholod, Acting Head of the Lviv Regional Council; Dr. hab., Prof. Monika Stanny, Director of the Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development Polish Academy of Sciences (IRWiR PAN); PhD, Assoc. Prof. Yaroslav Prytula, First Vice-Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University; and Mateusz Białas, Director of the Polish Academy of Sciences Representation in Kyiv.

Also, at the beginning of the event, Prof. Monika Stanny, Director of the Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IRWiR PAN), presented the experience of cooperation between scientific and governmental institutions on the example of IRWiR PAN.
In the panel “Multifunctional Development of Rural Areas”, Academician Olena Borodina, Head of the Department of Economics and Policy of Agrarian Transformation of the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Professor of the Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IRWiR PAN), presented the results of the study, in particular, those carried out in the project “Substantiation and measures for implementation of a human rights-based integrated approach to rural development, food security and land policy in post-war reconstruction of Ukraine” (abbreviated as “rUAr: Rebuild Rural Ukraine”), funded under the program “Long-term program of support of the Ukrainian research teams at the Polish Academy of Sciences carried out in collaboration with the U.S. National Academy of Sciences with the financial support of external partners”.

On the eve of the conference, a brief meeting of experts directly involved in the process of formulating rural development policy was held: from the Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IRWiR PAN), the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU), the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, and the Land Management Institute of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine. The Land Management Institute of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine was represented at the event by Director, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine Yosyp Dorosh, Deputy Director Andrii Tarnopolskyi, Head of the Department of Experimental Land Use Design “Innovation Center” Oksana Sakal, Doctor of Economics, Senior Researcher, who spoke about the Institute’s developments in land management, land valuation and land market monitoring in the context of rural development.
