Participation of the Land Management Institute of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine in the International Expert Seminar on the Integration of Ukrainian Agriculture into the EU Common Agricultural Policy
On July 1–3, 2025, the city of Warsaw (Republic of Poland) hosted an international expert seminar titled “Integration of Ukrainian Agriculture into the EU Common Agricultural Policy”, focused on the challenges and priorities of aligning Ukraine’s agricultural sector with the policies and mechanisms of the European Union. Special attention was given to issues of climate change and the sustainable development of rural areas.
The event was held with the support of the rUAr: Rebuild Rural Ukraine project (“Substantiation and measures for implementation of a human rights-based integrated approach to rural development, food security and land policy in post-war rebuilding of Ukraine”), funded under the Long-term program of support of the Ukrainian research teams at the Polish Academy of Sciences, implemented in cooperation with the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and with the financial support of external partners.
As part of the thematic sessions and workshops, the following topics were discussed:
– adaptation of Ukrainian institutional frameworks to EU policies;
– opportunities for applying Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) instruments in Ukraine;
– strategies for risk management and enhancing climate resilience;
– cross-sectoral coordination and access to EU financial resources.
The event brought together representatives from academic institutions, public administration, civil society, and international expert organizations from Ukraine, Poland, the United States, and Germany, including Polissia National University, the Kyiv School of Economics, the NGO “Permaculture in Ukraine,” the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Oklahoma, the BRIDGES Network, and AgriAgora.
As part of the event, Dr. Vitaliy Krupin and Doctor of Economics, Senior Researcher Oksana Sakal (IRWiR PAN) presented the key approaches and goals of the “Rebuild Rural Ukraine” project, which focuses on implementing an integrated rural development policy based on human rights, food security, and land reform in the post-war period.
Oksana Sakal also reported on the methodological approaches and scientific outcomes of the project (LandShift) Community-Led Creation of Living Spaces in Shifting Landscapes for Climate-Resilient Land Use Management and Supporting the New European Bauhaus, funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme (Grant Agreement No. 101182007)
