The І International scientific-practical conference “MODERN CHALLENGES IN LAND RESOURCES MANAGEMENT” was co-organised by the Land Management Institute

On June 07, 2024, on the basis of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, the Land management institute of National academy of agrarian sciences of Ukraine, as a co-organizer, held І International scientific-practical conference “Modern challenges in land resources management” in a mixed format.
 


 
The session 1 “Modern challenges in land resources management” was moderated by Olha Dorosh, Dr. of Economics, Prof., Head of the Department of Land Resources Management, National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine session 1 Modern challenges in land resources management and the session 2 in a form of Workshop “Public interests in land management and land use: current European trends” was moderated by Olena Borodina, Dr. of Economics, Prof., academician of the NASU, Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Policy reforms at the State Institution “Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine”, Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development, Polish Academy of Sciences (IRWiR PAN).
The official opening of the conference began with a welcoming speech by Oksana Tonkha, Dr. of Agricultural Sciences, Professor, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work of NULES of Ukraine.
Maksym Kropyvko, Deputy Academician-Secretary of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, delivered a welcoming speech from the Department of Agricultural Economics and Food of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine.
Yosyp Dorosh, Dr. of Economics, Professor, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, Director of the Land Management Institute of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, also addressed the conference participants with a welcoming speech.
On behalf of the co-organizers of the event, the participants were greeted by the director of State Institution “Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine” (Kyiv, Ukraine) Valerii Heiets, Dr of Economics, Prof., academician of NAS of Ukraine, Distinguished Figure in Science and Technology of Ukraine., and Dr. Anna Rosa, Deputy Director of the Institute for Rural and Agricultural Development of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IRWiR PAN) (Warsaw, Poland).
Oleksandr Shevchenko, PhD, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Land Management of NULES of Ukraine, made a speech on behalf of the Faculty of Land Management.

 


 
The conference was attended by representatives of all the organizing institutions, as well as representatives of the Institute of Demography and Quality of Life Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University, Sumy National Agrarian University, and others.
 
The conference presented the results of research on various aspects of current problems in land management, discussed the impact of armed aggression on land management and land protection, soil quality in the context of European integration, harmonization of Ukrainian land legislation with the European Union law, development of rural land use economy and rural areas in general.

During the conference, the Workshop “Public interests in land management and land use: current European trends” was held, where reports were presented by:
Roels Maarten, Head of the “Access to Land” network – “Access to land as a tool for transformation in the agri-food sector”;
Duminicioiu Ramona, President of the Small Scale Farmers Association of Romania “Eco Ruralis” – “Land use and regulation in Romania – the cautionary tale of the painful transition from communism to European integration. How can the experience of Romania serve as a living example for Ukraine?”.

 


 
The conference was supported by the projects “Substantiation and measures for implementation of a human rights-based integrated approach to rural development, food security and land policy in post-war rebuilding of Ukraine” (acronym “rUAr: Rebuild Rural Ukraine”) financed under the “Long-term program of support of the Ukrainian research teams at the Polish Academy of Sciences carried out in collaboration with the U.S. National Academy of Sciences with the financial support of external partners” and “Upskilling pathway for agroecology practitioners toward European synergies on land” financed by Erasmus+.
